Hidden Cypress Hollow is a little piece of natural magic in Central Florida. Here in the swamp along the Little Wekiva River, we do Florida the old fashion way... we immerse ourselves in it. We offer environmental adventure, nature and mud walks, outdoor survival skill classes, camping and bonfires, Dutch oven cooking, Florida history and local Indian lore, wildlife tracking and spotting, native and invasive plant education, and photography workshops besides good 'ole canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming. We also have a small specialty plant nursery and host a kids Eco-Adventure Camp. After school classes are scheduled for the near future.
Owner Julie Fisher comes from one of the oldest Central Florida families that moved to Orlando in 1873. Her heritage is seeped with rich local history. She has had a life long love of nature and the outdoors. She was raised in an Eagle boy scout family, grew up exploring and experiencing the outdoors and has never stopped. She attended an outdoor wilderness school in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for three summers. Besides being a 'woodsie' as she calls herself, she is a mother of four grown children, a photographer, a graphic artist, computer tutor, an environmental educator and volunteer, a gardener and nursery owner, a crafter, a storyteller, and a past Youth director. Throw in an infectious enthusiasm and passion for what she does, and you've got yourself adventure to remember.
The Fisher family has owned Hidden Cypress Hollow for 40 years. It is named after a 2,100 year old grand bald cypress tree on the property that is one of the largest of its kind. Their cabin is the last home on the river next to thousands of acres in the Wekiva River Basin, pristine, protected Florida wetlands and wilderness. They have 16 acres of pasture, woods, and swamp to explore including a half acre pine island in the middle of the Little Wekiva River that is an ideal outdoor event and camping site. They have been sharing this special spot with special interest groups, boy and girl scouts, church groups, and families for for over 20 years.
